Defense for Current and Old Traffic Tickets and Violations and Driver's License Restoration
Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania
Our law firm regularly provides legal help to individuals with Driver's License suspension issues in Pennsylvania. We use all available legal means to assist people under suspension of their driving privilege to get restored to eligibility as quickly as possible. We help Pennsylvania residents with driver's license problems as well as people who are out of state but with Pennsylvania driver's privilege suspension problems. The National Driver Registry and enhanced reporting between States means that people from all over the United States are finding out at the renewal time for their driving license or when trying to get a license in another state, that a problem with their Pennsylvania driving privilege is stopping them. An old ticket in Pennsylvania left unresolved can mean inability to get a license until it is responded to (but beware, pleading guilty can mean an additional suspension - get legal advice!). Likewise, a conviction of a traffic violation can result in a suspension of Pennsylvania driving privilege and if not acknowledged properly is never considered served. For the unwary driver, these can mean loss of driving privilege and a problem with getting a license - even outside of Pennsylvania.
With over 25 years of legal experience, each of the attorneys at Joyce & Bittner has handled numerous and varied driver's license suspension and serious traffic violation matters. We can assist with many different and difficult driver's license restoration problems, including:
- Challenging old outstanding traffic tickets on procedural grounds
- Appeal of traffic ticket and traffic violation convictions
- Defense at traffic hearings for serious traffic violations which could result in suspension time
- Opening old traffic citations and convictions where the driver was uninformed or misinformed of appeal rights
- Requests for credit for service of suspension time not previously granted by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Driver Licensing
- Assisting people who formerly lived in Pennsylvania or were only visiting, who are now encountering problems obtaining, renewing, or reinstating a driver's license in their state of residence because of a Pennsylvania traffic citation or driving privilege problem
- Appeal of Driver's license suspensions to Court for Judicial determination of the legitimacy of the driving privilege suspension imposed by PennDot
- Petitions and submissions for recalculation of driving records
Contact the Pennsylvania traffic ticket and driver license suspension help attorneys at Joyce & Bittner for a consultation about our ability to help resolve driver's license suspension problems in Pennsylvania. For residents outside of Pennsylvania with license problems here, we can often resolve suspended driver's license matters without the need for you to return to Pennsylvania.
Our goal in each driver's license matter is to carefully review all necessary documentation and interview the client to determine what can be done to assist in attempting to restore their driving privilege. In the meantime, we recommend the following:
- Consult with legal counsel before pleading guilty to or simply paying old unresolved traffic tickets - your guilty plea could lead to new suspension time for the new conviction.
- On serious traffic violations where there has already been a finding of guilt contact legal counsel immediately - failure to timely file an appeal could prevent a challenge to a driving privilege suspension later imposed from the conviction.
- Commercial Drivers (CDL operators) should never pay any ticket or accept a pretrial diversion for a serious traffic offense before consulting with an attorney - even if the offense was in a private passenger (non-commercial) vehicle.
- Don't simply rely on advice from PennDot or District Magistrate Judges about what to do to get your license restored. Following the advice to "pay a ticket" to have an indefinite suspension lifted for example may lead to a lengthy period of license suspension imposed shortly after you are reinstated.
Allow Joyce & Bittner to analyze your driver's history as soon as possible to protect you from further unpleasant surprises or consequences
Our Pittsburgh traffic violations lawyers also represent truck drivers and other holders of commercial driver's licenses from other states. In some cases, we'll be able to handle your Pennsylvania citation or violations on a remote basis without the need for you to return to the Commonwealth. Whether you were cited for speeding through the I-70 corridor, or were stopped for a serious and expensive overweight violation on a restricted bridge or roadway, we can help you.
